20 Somethings

They call it the 'Quarter-life Crisis'. It is when you
stop going along with the crowd and start realizing
that there are many things about yourself that you
didn't know and may not like. You start feeling
insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or
two, but then get scared because you barely know where
you are now. You start realizing that people are
selfish and that, maybe, those friends that you
thought you were so close to aren't exactly the
greatest people you have ever met, and the people you
have lost touch with are some of the most important
ones. What you don't recognize is that they are
realizing that too, and aren't really cold, catty,
mean or insincere, but that they are as confused as
you. You look at your job... and it is not even close
to what you thought you would be doing, or maybe you
are looking for a job and realizing that you are going
to have to start at the bottom and that scares you.
Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what
others are doing and find yourself judging more than
usual because suddenly you realize that you have
certain boundaries in your life and are constantly
adding things to your list of what is acceptable and
what isn't. One minute, you are insecure and then the
next, secure. You laugh and cry with the greatest
force of your life. You feel alone and scared and
confused. Suddenly, change is the enemy and you try
and cling on to the past with dear life, but soon
realize that the past is drifting further and further
away, and there is nothing to do but stay where you
are or move forward. You get your heart broken and
wonder how someone you loved could do such damage to
you. Or you lie in bed and wonder why you can't meet
anyone decent enough that you want to get to know
better. Or maybe you love someone but love someone
else too and cannot figure out why you are doing this
because you know that you aren't a bad person. One
night stands and random hook ups start to look cheap.
Getting wasted and acting like an idiot starts to look
pathetic. You go through the same emotions and
questions over and over, and talk with your friends
about the same topics because you cannot seem to make
a decision. You worry about loans, money, the future
and making a life for yourself... and while winning
the race would be great, right now you'd just like to
be a contender! What you may not realize is that
everyone reading this relates to it. We are in our
best of times and our worst of times, trying as hard
as we can to figure this whole thing out.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US!!!!!

The Washington Mutual Way of Life

IRA - an individual retirement account which lets you set aside tax-advantaged savings toward the time that you retire, savings which slowly and steadily grow to assume much higher levels than the original invested amount.

Longterm Investment - a series of portfolio-based purchases towards small stock percentages that, though prone to regular fluctuations along side the market, develops and grows your base supply with palpitating force.

401K - the thingy you get from work.

*sigh*

My mother is great, and I hope one day I will understand half of what she understands about the world... but I don't get this stuff ONE BIT.

That's why I'll just focus my energy on becoming rich and famous.

Random Thoughts:
- My cat doesn't know it, but seeing her sick makes me very sad.
- I will never name my daughter 'Sally' or 'May' so as to show those &*#%$ at SallieMae how offended I am at my oweing them money.
- On another issue, I would like to thank SallieMae for being there when I needed money to pay for my college.
- If all goes well, and I save up enough money, I think I will reward myself with a holiday trip to Europe. Roundtrip tickets for Sept 1st- Oct 1st are only $700 at Expedia.com! Who's with me?

It's been a strange few weeks.
I'll break it up into two acts, so as to make cohesive the jumble of the last few days.

ACT ONE: Moving on up.

There has been an unexpected wave of possibilities washing over the Filmmaker House. I guess after our 1 year anniversary everybody decided that the freshmen period of life in LA was over. Andy got a job as a director's assistant/behind-the-scenes person for an upcoming feature film (http://thetribemovie.blogspot.com/). Peter is shopping around for production jobs, and may soon be waving farewell to life at E!.

Luis and Miska's show has had some success. Luis is now the rising star at his weekly improv, and the steady stream of good reviews doesn't seem to be slowing. Miska is waiting for a callback from the producers of the show 'Lost' for a possible reacurring role.

And me?

I've snatched up an internship. It's at Underground Films (www.undergroundfilms.net), a small, successful production company that produces feature films and represents the best and brightest of the upandcoming scriptwriters in the industry. In May they start production at Warner Brothers Studios on the new film "License to Wed" starring Robin Williams and Mandy Moore. They also have their hands in a new Chuck Palahnuik film, as well as a teen thriller set to star Mischa Barton. My roll there is as scriptreader and office support. Already I have 3 scripts to read over the weekend (homework), and I am gobbling them up without swallowing- pausing only for fresh air and rocky road ice cream.

I love it.

I've also obtained another job... a sort of 'modeling' job you could say. I'll tell you about that later.

Lastly- After much hesitation and many a sleepless night I have finally begun writing my script. Armed with the silver pen Mommy gave me and my precious friend 'Failure' (c/The Artist's Way) goading me into defeat, I go swimming through the uncharted depths of my creativity.

ACT TWO:And then there were 4.

Namely: everyone has left. First we had a visitor (Rikka! Miska's cousin, who's been here before and decided to come again due to a 'leave of absence' from work), and that was lots of fun because she was much needed feminine company. For a week it was bliss. Then, early on a quiet Wednesday morning, she left.

On that same Wednesday Christian's 3 months of english schooling finished- so, after a boastful round of golf at Griffith Park, he left.

Not to be beaten, on Saturday, due to a failing immigration system and the opportunity to start filming his documentary of 'The Tribe' in Costa Rica, Andy left.

And so here we are. The Filmmaker House. The fridge is bigger, the hallways echo, and those of us left feel the loss of old friends.

HAPPY 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY FILMMAKER HOUSE!!!!

It's been 1 year! April 1st- 1 year TO THE DAY that we signed our lease and our lives away to the Hollywood dream. Time does fly. We at the Filmmaker House decided the occasion was fit for a celebration, so we held our first 2006 Saturday Night BarBQ followed with the premiere of our roadtrip-to-california documentary "At All Costs- A Strength in Numbers Story."

My Gift to the House- an upgraded grill!

Luis and I went to Ralph's earlier in the day to prepare. And at Ralph's we found IT. THE STEAK. 12 pounds of big, fat, meaty mess.

IMG_5110
An $8 steak... it's bigger than Luis' face. Remember the size of the $47 filet mignon?

. . .

IMG_5113
Of course we bought it.

The night was a festivous miracle. We drank, we sang, we ATE, and we got it all down on camera.

We ended the night by reminiscing. The documentary was HILARIOUS- it was nice seeing all of the places we've been, all the things we've seen, and all the hopes we had. It was also great to see Darryl's face again :)

We finished it all with some scrumptous Apple Pie a la mode (thanks Luis!) and more memories.

So much has changed in the past year. And yet- so much has stayed the same:

A NIGHT AT THE LODGE WITH MY E! FOLK

IMG_5077
Professionalism Abounds

Friday night to me is a blur. The E! Gods found it within their means to reward the minions by paying for a night out on the town, so we in International Operations decided to have some steaks at The Lodge. How fun! I had my first taste of martinis, in the form of a "Snow Bunny," "Chocolate Martini," & "Raspberry Cheesecake Martini." After that I don't remember much...

Again- so fun! The people I work with are awesome... not bad for my first job in California, huh?
